Nigerian Arrested in Thailand for Cocaine Trafficking

Nwaiwu Ifeanyi Placid, a 46-year-old Nigerian man, was arrested in Thailand's Bangkok nightlife district for his involvement in a cocaine trafficking network. The Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau, led by Chief Pol Lt Gen Sayam Boonsom, conducted the arrest near Silom Soi 1, seizing 27 grams of cocaine.

Three other individuals were arrested, including Swiss national Thoma Giubibini and two Thai suspects, Thanayot Asawamethi (35) and Nattawat Wangkitjinda (34). The total seizure included 30 grams of cocaine, 1.5 million baht in cash, foreign currency worth 15,000 baht, and jewelry valued at 400,000 baht.

This operation is part of a larger investigation that began with a crackdown on the drug network in October 2022, which led to the arrest of nine Nigerian suspects in January 2023. The police have identified another Nigerian suspect, Patrick Ag, who has allegedly been operating as a middleman in the drug network for at least 17 years.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects remain in custody.
