Nigerians Arrested in India for Cocaine Trafficking

Tochukwu Afam, a Nigerian national, and his accomplice Sunni Sharma were arrested in India for allegedly trafficking cocaine hidden inside blood pressure machines. The arrests occurred on Saturday, following an investigation that began on March 19.

Police discovered 4.55 grams of cocaine valued at 2.27 lakh during a search in Raipur's S Devendra Nagar area. The suspects reportedly used this method to evade detection during courier checks.

Further inquiries revealed that Afam has connections to a broader drug distribution network operating across state boundaries, with links to handlers in Nigeria. During interrogation, Afam admitted to being involved in an international drug syndicate.

The investigation also uncovered financial transactions involving 9.70 lakh in cash and five iPhones, indicating substantial logistical operations. The anti-crime cyber unit in Raipur has intensified operations against narcotics, leading to multiple arrests in 2026 alone.

The ongoing investigation is expected to yield additional arrests as authorities track the wider supply chain.
