Eniang, the Executive Director of the Biodiversity Preservation Centre (BPC) and a Professor of Wildlife Resources Management at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, is Nigeria’s sole representative at the Global Snake Congress held from October 1 to 4, 2026, at the Grand Kandyan Hotel in Sri Lanka. The congress gathers over 500 researchers, ophiologists, and medical experts from 25 countries, marking the first international conference dedicated to snake biology, conservation, and public health.
Dr Piriye Kiyaramo, Chairman of the BRACED Tourism Promotion and Development Initiative (BTPDI), praised Eniang for his extensive contributions to herpetology and conservation over three decades. The congress features various sessions covering topics such as snake biology, human-snake coexistence, and snakebite management.
The event aims to position Sri Lanka as a key center for global snake research, addressing the significant issue of snakebite envenoming, which the World Health Organization classifies as a neglected tropical disease.
