Adeyinka Samuel Elected CFF President, Making History

Adeyinka Samuel has been elected as the President of the Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFF), marking a historic achievement for Nigeria and Africa in international sports governance. He won the election held during the federation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Rugby School Nigeria, Atlantic City, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, defeating the incumbent, Marie-France Dufour, with a vote count of 14 to 6.

Samuel's election is significant as he becomes the first African and Nigerian to hold this position, breaking a tradition of leadership predominantly from countries like Scotland, Australia, and Canada. His victory signifies Africa's increasing influence in global fencing.

The election coincided with Nigeria hosting the senior and veteran Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Lagos, which included over 20 participating nations and recognized U-23 and Wheelchair Fencing events as medal-yielding competitions. Delegates commended Samuel's leadership and vision, noting his journey from a world-class athlete to the President of the Nigeria Fencing Federation.
