Maduka Okoye Eager for Super Eagles Return After Injury

Maduka Okoye, a 26-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper, expressed his heartfelt happiness at being part of the Super Eagles squad during a friendly match against Iran last month. However, he was omitted from the squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco due to a calf injury, which prevented him from participating in the 2-2 draw against Jordan.

Okoye, a former Sparta Rotterdam shot stopper, is determined to add to his 19 caps for the national team, which has won the African championship three times. He emphasized the importance of returning to the national team, stating that he wants to contribute as they defend their title in the upcoming United Cup.

The Super Eagles will face Zimbabwe in the semi-final on Tuesday, May 27. Additionally, Nigeria is scheduled to play international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June, and Okoye is hopeful for a call-up to these matches.
