Nigerian Government Adopts Community-Driven Approach to Tackle Insecurity in South-East

The Nigerian government has shifted to a community-driven strategy to address security challenges in the South-East region. In a meeting led by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Communication Engagement for the South-East, Chioma Nweze, and retired General Christoph Musa of the Ministry of Defence, discussions centered on enhancing intelligence structures, improving community engagement, and deepening trust between citizens and security agencies.

Plans include establishing joint work teams, coordinating security summits, and developing targeted programs to engage youth and address underlying socio-economic factors driving unrest. Nweze emphasized the government's commitment to inclusive security management and peacebuilding efforts led by communities.

The approach aims to encourage citizen participation in security solutions and combat activities fueling insecurity.
