Federal Government Enforces Ban on Motorcycles

The Federal Government has implemented a ban on motorcycles, tricycles, and several illegal activities along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to restore order and improve safety. Engr Olufemi Dare, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, announced these measures during a press briefing, citing persistent infractions such as unauthorized U-turns, illegal parking by trucks, and the emergence of shanties.

The ban specifically targets commercial motorcycles, known as Okada, and tricycles, referred to as Keke Marwa. Dare warned that vehicles parked illegally would be clamped and towed.

Additionally, hawking, roadside trading, and livestock grazing are prohibited to prevent accidents. The government plans to collaborate with security agencies to remove illegal occupants and has already impounded over 100 motorcycles in the previous week.

CP Fatai Oladipo has directed increased police presence to support enforcement, and 40 coastal guards will be deployed to monitor activities along the highway.
