Federal Government Warns of Lagos-Calabar Highway Closure

The Federal Government has issued a warning to close the Lagos section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway within two weeks if road users do not comply with safety measures. This announcement was made by Olufemi Dare, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, during an inspection tour on Monday.

The directive comes from Minister of Works, David Umahi, due to ongoing safety breaches, vandalism, and illegal activities along the highway. Dare highlighted that the highway, which is still under construction, should not have been opened to traffic before the completion of its bridges.

The Lagos section spans approximately 103km, divided into two sections with 20 major bridges, many of which remain unfinished. Dare expressed concern over high-speed driving on the highway, where the speed limit is set at 30km per hour.

He also mentioned an agreement with the Lagos State Police Command to increase police presence along the highway to enhance security and warned against illegal U-turns and other violations.
