Nigeria Calls for Africa's Permanent UN Security Council Seat

The Nigerian government has reiterated its demand for Africa to obtain a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. This call was made by Jimoh Ibrahim during an informational meeting convened to prepare for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

Ibrahim reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to the UN Charter, particularly its preamble and Articles 24 and 27, highlighting the urgent need for member states to respect these provisions. He stressed that achieving Africa's long-standing demand for permanent representation in the Security Council is crucial for ensuring sustainable sovereignty and mutual respect among nations.

Ibrahim noted that the reform required to address this demand necessitates broad-based support from member states to be fully realized.
