Nigeria to Evacuate 271 Citizens from South Africa

The Nigerian government has arranged to evacuate 271 citizens stranded in South Africa amid rising threats from anti-immigrant groups demanding undocumented foreigners, particularly Black individuals, to leave the country. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that an Air Peace aircraft will depart Nigeria on June 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM and is expected to arrive in South Africa around 9:00 PM local time.

The return flight is scheduled to leave South Africa at midnight and is anticipated to arrive at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on June 30, 2026. This evacuation comes in response to heightened fears of xenophobic unrest, prompting several African nations to evacuate their citizens.

South African authorities have condemned the threats and deployed police and military forces to enhance security nationwide.
