MDCN Updates Practitioner Register, Urges Specialist Compliance

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has initiated an update of its register for medical and dental practitioners, mandating specialists to formally register any additional qualifications to maintain their official recognition. Prof. Fatima Kyari, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the MDCN, made this announcement on Wednesday during the 51st Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN) in Abuja.

She described the updated master register as essential for ethical medical practice and stated that it would be published after the registration exercise. Kyari encouraged specialists to ensure that all additional qualifications from approved training programs are registered with the council.

Additionally, Brig-Gen. Innocent Alolo Enwuchola, Commander of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, reported on the military's advancements in eye-care facilities and training for medical personnel. The conference also included plans for over 500 free cataract surgeries as part of a humanitarian outreach to reduce avoidable blindness.
