Nigerian Red Cross Appeals for Support in Anambra State

The Nigerian Red Cross Society's Anambra State branch, chaired by Prof. Chariti Emeli, is seeking greater support to tackle the increasing humanitarian needs in the region.

During a recent address commemorating World Red Cross Day, Emeli highlighted the organization's critical role as first responders during emergencies and public health crises. She noted that the branch has strengthened its emergency response capacity by training volunteers and equipping a rapid response team.

However, the humanitarian challenges are escalating at an alarming rate, while funding is dwindling. The branch has deployed 215 members of its emergency first aid team alongside 465 trained first aiders, managing 35 casualties from various medical conditions.

Emeli also mentioned partnerships with international agencies, including ECOWAS, which provided food and cash assistance to 1,000 households in specific local government areas. The organization continues to appeal to stakeholders, including government officials and private individuals, for support in its humanitarian efforts, particularly for vulnerable populations such as motherless children.
