Nigerian Sprinter Godson Oghenebrume Sentenced to Prison

Godson Oghenebrume, a 23-year-old Nigerian sprinter, was sentenced to 27 months in prison by a U.S. federal court for illegal possession of a firearm while residing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The conviction stemmed from an incident involving a domestic dispute with his former girlfriend on February 7, 2025, where he admitted to possessing a Glock 43X 9mm pistol despite being on a non-immigrant student visa.

Wall announced the decision on June 30, 2026. Following the completion of his prison sentence, Oghenebrume will be deported to Nigeria.

The case involved allegations that Oghenebrume discharged the firearm in the presence of an infant during a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend, leading to multiple shots fired and damage to her mobile phone. He was apprehended after allegedly ignoring commands from law enforcement and discarding the handgun nearby.

The investigation was conducted with assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and local law enforcement.
