Nigerian Sprinter Oghenebrume Sentenced to 27 Months

Godson Oghenebrume, a 23-year-old Nigerian sprinter, was sentenced to 27 months in prison by a U.S. federal court for illegal possession of a firearm while residing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The conviction stems from an incident on February 7, 2025, where Oghenebrume admitted to possessing a Glock 43X 9mm pistol despite being on a non-immigrant student visa.

The case arose from a domestic dispute involving his former girlfriend, during which he allegedly discharged the firearm in the presence of an infant child. Following the incident, he fled the scene, leaving the child behind, and was later apprehended by law enforcement.

Oghenebrume's actions led to charges of damaging his ex-girlfriend's mobile phone and ignoring commands from deputies. Upon completion of his prison sentence, he will be deported to Nigeria, as stated in court documents.
