Nigerian Varsity Lecturers Declare Two-Week Warning Strike Over Government's Inaction

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Nigeria, led by President Chris Piwuna, has announced a two-week warning strike citing the government's insincerity in resolving long-standing issues in public universities. The strike, starting on October 13, aims to pressure the government to address demands such as renegotiating the 2009 agreement, revitalizing university funds, and paying outstanding salaries.

ASUU expressed frustration over the government's neglect of the university system, leading to the strike action after a 14-day notice. This move raises concerns about the uncertainty facing students and parents amid the recovery from prolonged university shutdowns.
