NIDCOM Addresses Evacuation Inquiries Amid Tensions

The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) issued a statement on Tuesday, clarifying that it has not received any distress calls from Nigerians stranded in the Middle East amidst rising tensions in the region. Abdur Rahman Balogun, the Director of Media and Public Relations at NIDCOM, emphasized that while there have been inquiries from a few Nigerians in Qatar, UAE, and Iran regarding potential evacuation plans, the commission has not received widespread reports of distress.

This clarification comes in light of heightened military tensions following a U.S. and Israeli strike on Iranian targets, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of several Iranian leaders. The Nigerian Foreign Affairs Ministry has issued a security advisory urging caution for Nigerians in Iran and neighboring Gulf countries.

NIDCOM assured that the federal government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of Nigerians abroad.
