Nigeria's 5G Market Share Grows 41% Amid Network Shift

Between July 2025 and June 2026, Nigeria's 5G mobile network share rose by 41%, reaching 4.61% of mobile connections, up from 3.27% the previous year, according to data from the Nigerian Communications Commission. This increase represents a 1.34 percentage-point rise.

In contrast, 4G's share grew from 51.22% to 54.31%, resulting in a combined share of 58.92% for newer-generation networks by June 2026. However, older technologies are losing ground, with 3G's share decreasing from 7.13% to 4.86% and 2G declining from 38.38% to 36.22%.

Despite the growth of 5G, 4G continues to be the backbone of Nigeria's mobile connectivity, accounting for more than half of all mobile connections. As of June 2026, Nigeria's total active telecom subscriptions reached 192.23 million, with MTN leading the market at 98.64 million subscribers, followed by Airtel with 66.12 million, Globacom with 23.68 million, and T2 with 3.54 million.
