Nigeria's Ambassador-Designate Lele Dies Before Taking Office

Nigeria’s ambassador-designate, Lele, died on April 19, 2023, before he could assume his role in Algeria. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the news, describing his death as a major loss to the country's diplomatic corps.

Lele, who was born in Gamawa, Bauchi State in 1976, had a distinguished career in Nigeria's foreign service, serving in various strategic assignments including missions in Berlin, Riyadh, and others. He was known for his intellectual depth and strategic insight, which contributed to advancing Nigeria's foreign policy.

The Ministry's spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, highlighted Lele's commitment and work ethic, stating he would be sorely missed. His remains were received at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja ahead of burial rites in Kano.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dunoma Umar Ahm, expressed condolences on behalf of the entire diplomatic community, emphasizing the profound impact of Lele's passing on both his family and the nation.
