Nigeria's AGF Calls for Comprehensive Cybersecurity Approach

On Thursday, Nigeria's Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, stated that the security of the nation's cyberspace cannot be achieved through enforcement alone. He called for the need to inform citizens and strengthen institutional capacities as part of a coordinated approach to cybersecurity.

Fagbemi spoke at the launch of a training program aimed at building a national cascade of certified trainers to enhance the country's capacity to prevent cybercrime. He commended the Commonwealth Secretariat's Cyber Fellowship Program for fostering cooperation among experts in Africa and the Caribbean.

The program aims to develop capacity and build networks to combat cybercrime, which has become a global threat with estimated losses of up to a trillion dollars annually. Fagbemi's remarks were made in Abuja, where he also acknowledged the support of the Commonwealth Secretariat and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in enhancing Nigeria's cyber justice ecosystem.
