Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu on Nigeria's Debt Crisis

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, asserting that Nigeria's rising debt is not translating into improved living conditions for citizens. In a statement issued on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku pointed out that the government's celebration of debt figures is disconnected from the daily struggles of millions of Nigerians who can barely afford one meal a day.

He lamented that ransom payments have become a routine household expense due to worsening insecurity, which has also led to a significant decline in agricultural output as farmers are unable to access their farmland safely. This decline has resulted in increased hunger and rising prices, contributing to widespread hardship.

Atiku emphasized that while borrowing can be beneficial when managed properly, the current rise in Nigeria's debt is not addressing the pressing economic and security challenges facing the country, calling for urgent action to prevent further deterioration.
