Nigerian Maritime Leaders Push for Policy Reforms to Boost Industry Competitiveness

Industry leaders in Nigeria's maritime sector are urging the government to invest in deep seaports and implement policies to boost the industry's competitiveness. Mfon Usoro, President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria, emphasized the need to bridge policy gaps to advance maritime competitiveness.

She highlighted the importance of policies surrounding ship ownership, operations, technology, manpower, logistics, and support services. Usoro also pointed out the existing legal instruments, like the NIMASA Act of 2007, aimed at promoting Nigerian ownership in the maritime sector.

The sector faces challenges in policy implementation despite its potential for job creation and revenue generation.
