Nigeria's Power Grid Faces Shutdowns Amid Plant Failures

Nigeria's power grid is currently experiencing significant operational challenges, as reported by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO). Data from NISO indicates that as of 1:00 PM on Friday, 30 power stations connected to the national grid recorded zero output.

This situation highlights the persistent instability in Nigeria's electricity supply, which has been exacerbated by frequent grid collapses and an inability to meet national demand. Energy experts warn that generation levels below 1,500 MW could trigger widespread load shedding and blackouts across multiple states, raising concerns about a repeat of national grid collapses seen in 2026.
