Nigeria's Q2 2026 Trade with Africa Surges to N7.76tn

In the second quarter of 2026, Nigeria's trade with African countries amounted to approximately N7.76 trillion, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Exports totaled N6.65 trillion, significantly exceeding imports of N1.10 trillion.

Notably, crude petroleum exports were valued at N3.23 trillion, making up 48.58% of total exports. Other significant exports included gas oil at N1.32 trillion and kerosene-type jet fuel at N975.37 billion.

The top five export destinations were Togo (N1.50 trillion), South Africa (N1.34 trillion), Côte d'Ivoire (N1.22 trillion), Ghana (N461.36 billion), and Egypt (N455.81 billion), collectively accounting for 74.75% of Nigeria's total exports to Africa. On the import side, Libya was the largest supplier, with trade worth N305.69 billion, and crude petroleum dominated imports at N628.89 billion.

Overall, Nigeria's merchandise trade showed strong growth, with total exports reaching N27.02 trillion and imports falling to N14.42 trillion, resulting in a trade surplus of N12.60 trillion.
