NIMC Launches Ward-Level NIN Registration in Jigawa

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has commenced ward-level National Identification Number (NIN) registration in Jigawa State, as disclosed by the state coordinator, Mr. Aminu Jakada, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.

This initiative began on February 16 and is part of a nationwide effort to improve access to registration services across the country. The development follows a presidential directive from President Bola Tinubu, mandating the NIMC to extend NIN enrollment to ward levels nationwide.

The exercise is particularly focused on enrolling women and children who have not yet registered for their NIN. NIMC has deployed enrollment devices across the state to facilitate this process.

The NIN is essential for various services, including school enrollment, obtaining international passports, registering phone numbers, and opening bank accounts. The enrollment will be conducted free of charge, and NIMC has warned against extortion by security agencies, urging local authorities and community leaders to mobilize residents for participation in this exercise.
