NiMet and CMA Strengthen Meteorological Partnership

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) have enhanced their strategic partnership to improve cooperation in early warning systems, satellite applications, and institutional development. Professor Charles Anosike, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, emphasized the partnership's commitment to advancing global meteorological development during the 2026 Alliance for Hydromet Development Annual Meeting.
He called for formalizing their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aligns with Nigeria's socioeconomic needs. Mr Song Shanyun, the CMA Deputy Administrator, acknowledged NiMet's leadership and expressed CMA's readiness to support meteorological development in Nigeria.
The two organizations identified three priority areas for cooperation: the joint development of the MAZU operational platform, expanded use of Fengyun satellite technology, and enhanced capacity-building. At the conclusion of their engagement, CMA presented NiMet with two tablet devices equipped with the MAZU artificial intelligence agent for urban multi-hazard early warning.
