NiMet Develops Digital Platform for Farmers' Climate Data

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is advancing a digital platform, the NiMet Data Hub, to improve access to reliable, location-specific weather and climate information for farmers, livestock keepers, and agricultural advisers. This initiative, launched in February 2026 under the Climate Services for Youth (CS4Y) and AGRA programmes, is being developed in collaboration with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and Crea2Solutions.

The project has progressed to an advanced Minimum Viable Product (MVP) stage, with ongoing testing of NiMet’s weather and climate services. The initiative aims to address challenges such as fragmented data and weak coordination among information providers, enhancing the delivery of climate services.

The hub will cater to various users, including farmers and agricultural extension professionals, and will integrate existing NiMet resources for context-specific agro-weather advisories. This effort aligns with the Federal Government’s priorities for food security and climate-smart agriculture under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
