NiMet Warns of Heavy Rains and Flooding in Five States

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting thunderstorms and rains across various regions of Nigeria from September 9 to 11, 2023. The forecast indicates that the North may experience morning thunderstorms and light rains, particularly in Taraba and Kebbi states.

Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected later in the day across several states, including Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, and Kaduna. In the North-Central region, thunderstorms with light rains are anticipated over Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory.

The southern region is expected to have a cloudy atmosphere with morning rains over multiple states, including Lagos and Rivers, transitioning to moderate rains later in the day. NiMet has specifically warned of a high possibility of flooding in Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during this forecast period.
