During a seminar in Lagos on Thursday, Aminu Bashir, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), addressed the pressing issue of building collapses in Nigeria, attributing them to several factors including poor design implementation and inadequate professional oversight. He noted that sometimes projects are initiated without proper designs, leading to structural failures. Bashir emphasized that the responsibility for these collapses is multifaceted and cannot be attributed to a single cause. He pointed out that individuals often commence construction without the necessary professional guidance, which can result in dangerous outcomes. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of regulatory compliance and the need for collective efforts to address these challenges. Bashir also mentioned plans to engage with President Bola Tinubu regarding cost management aspects in line with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to enhance infrastructure projects in Nigeria.
