NIS Begins Deportation Of 42 Convicted Chinese, Philippine Nationals

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has started the deportation of 42 Chinese and Philippine nationals who were convicted of cyber terrorism and Ponzi scheme offenses. The first batch of deportees is set to leave Nigeria on Sunday, August 18, 2025, with more to follow in the coming days.

These individuals were part of a group involved in cyber fraud and Ponzi scheme operations, with a total of 759 suspects arrested in a massive security raid in December 2024. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted the case, highlighting the use of fake online identities to defraud victims.

The EFCC Chairman emphasized the significance of these deportations in the fight against transnational financial crimes and the recovery of stolen funds, aligning with President Bola Tinubu's agenda. This operation marks a major crackdown on transnational fraud in Nigeria's history.
