Convicted Chinese nationals capable of destabilising Nigeria’s security – Police

The Nigerian Police Force has warned that convicted Chinese nationals arrested for cybercrime are capable of destabilizing the country's security and causing economic instability. The suspects were apprehended in a coordinated raid in the Federal Capital Territory on November 3, 2024, with over 130 individuals involved in cybercrime.

Twenty-one suspects have already been convicted and sentenced, with ongoing trials for the remaining defendants. The police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the importance of digital forensic evidence and expert testimony in the trial process.

The Force is working closely with the Ministry of Justice to ensure the prosecution of all suspects involved in cybercrime. The police have reaffirmed their commitment to fighting cybercrime and protecting national security, promising to keep the public informed as the case progresses through the court system.
