NLNG Launches GenScan AI to Revolutionize MRI Scans

Nigeria LNG Limited unveiled GenScan AI, an innovative artificial intelligence tool designed to significantly reduce magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan times by up to 90% while maintaining or improving image quality. Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at NLNG, announced this development during a presentation to stakeholders in Abuja.
GenScan AI, developed by Mary-Brenda Akoda, won the 2026 Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation, which received a record 237 entries. The technology utilizes the C-MORE algorithm to reconstruct MRI images efficiently without the need for new hardware.
NLNG's General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, emphasized the importance of translating scientific research into practical healthcare improvements. Professor Barth Nnaji, a member of the Prize’s Advisory Board, noted the entry's scientific strength and its potential to meet healthcare needs.
Akoda is the first woman and first millennial to win the Prize and will receive a US$100,000 award on October 9, 2026.
