NMA Cross River Raises Alarm Over Candidate Disqualification

The Cross River State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has expressed alarm over the disqualification of Dr. Ofem Enang from the presidential candidacy.

NMA State Chairman Dr. Ezok Epok, during a press interaction on Thursday in Calabar, described the disqualification as unconstitutional and capable of causing unrest and disunity within the association.

He criticized the decision as biased and illogical, threatening the democratic principles guiding the NMA's electoral process. Dr.

Epok highlighted that the NMA constitution outlines clear eligibility nomination procedures and that the administrative requirements, such as multiple copies of curriculum vitae and passport photographs, cannot override constitutional provisions. He warned that the situation could lead to a fragmentation of the association along political lines.

Dr. Enang's disqualification was labeled arbitrary and driven by vested interests, with a call for immediate reversal of the action to reinstate duly nominated candidates.

The NMA emphasized adherence to its constitutional provisions, particularly Article 11 governing elections.
