NMDPRA Chief Rabiu Umar Commits to Energy Reforms

Rabiu Umar, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), has committed to strengthening energy security and implementing supply reforms in Nigeria. His pledge follows a screening on May 5, 2026, after his nomination on April 29, 2026, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umar aims to eliminate supply bottlenecks and ensure stable fuel availability across the nation. He outlined his agenda to enhance supply resilience and regulatory efficiency, which is crucial given the global disruptions affecting fuel prices.

Umar brings two decades of experience in the downstream petroleum sector, including senior roles at Oando PLC and Ashaka Cement PLC. He emphasized the importance of maintaining adequate stock buffers at Nigeria's 22 depots and working closely with relevant agencies to guarantee product availability.

His nomination has received strong endorsements from industry stakeholders, who express confidence in his ability to address sector challenges and support independent market growth.
