Rabiu Umar Appointed CEO of NMDPRA by Tinubu

Rabiu Abdullahi Umar has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA) by President Bola Tinubu, effective immediately. This appointment follows the merger of three regulatory bodies under the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021.

Umar, who has over three decades of experience in the oil and energy sectors, previously held significant positions at Ashaka Cement, Dangote Group, and Unipetrol Nigeria PLC. His career began as a sales representative after graduating from Bayero University.

He later rose to become Chief Operating Officer at Lafarge and held the position of Strategic Director at Lafarge. His father, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Snr, was a retired General Manager at Total Oil PLC.

The Senate approved Umar's appointment last week, marking a new era for the NMDPRA, which aims to enhance efficiency and align with global best practices in the petroleum industry.
