Tinubu Removes NMDPRA Chief, Appoints Rabiu Umar

On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the removal of Saidu Mohammed from his position as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). In his place, Tinubu has nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, a seasoned executive with 25 years of experience in the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors.

The decision, communicated by Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga, was made in the public interest and aligns with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021. The move aims to strengthen regulatory effectiveness in Nigeria's midstream and downstream petroleum sector as part of the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.

Umar's appointment is subject to Senate confirmation, and he is expected to oversee operations in accordance with the Act. President Tinubu expressed appreciation for Saidu Mohammed's service and wished him success in future endeavors, reaffirming his commitment to appoint capable leaders to promote energy security and sustainable economic growth.
