Tinubu Appoints Rabiu Umar as NMDPRA Chief Executive

President Bola Tinubu has approved the removal of Saidu Mohammed as the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). This decision, announced in a statement from the State House on Wednesday, was made in the public interest and aligns with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021.

The aim is to strengthen regulatory effectiveness in the midstream and downstream petroleum sector as part of Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar has been nominated as the new Chief Executive, subject to Senate confirmation.

Umar brings 25 years of experience across the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors and is an alumnus of Bayero University and Harvard Business School. The statement also expressed gratitude to the outgoing Chief Executive for his service and reiterated the President's commitment to appointing capable leadership in key regulatory institutions to advance energy security and sustain economic growth.

The leadership change at NMDPRA is set to take effect by December 2025.
