NMDPRA Reports 30% Reduction in Gas Imbalance

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) announced a 30% reduction in gas imbalance on the country’s Western Network after the first half of the 2026 Nigerian Gas Network Reconciliation (NGNR) Workshop held in Abuja. This biannual workshop involved gas transporters, suppliers, shippers, and off-takers reconciling gas volumes traded from January to June 2026.

A key outcome was the introduction of a Network Entry and Exit Point Measurement Infrastructure Audit Template, designed to improve metering accuracy and accountability in gas measurement across the national gas transmission network. Joseph Musa, the Director of Transportation Systems and Networks, represented the Authority Chief Executive, Rabiu Umar, and emphasized the reconciliation's role in ensuring equitable commercial transactions and boosting investor confidence.

Since the inception of the Nigerian Gas Network Reconciliation process in 2023, there have been significant improvements in gas measurement and regulatory compliance, contributing to a more reliable domestic gas supply system. Participants also reviewed the performance of the Nigerian Gas Transmission Network (NGTN) and discussed major pipeline infrastructure projects.
