Nnamdi Kanu sues Imo police commissioner over alleged defamation, demands N10bn damages

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has filed a N10 billion defamation suit against Aboki Danjuma, the Imo State Commissioner of Police. The suit was filed in the Abuja High Court, with Kanu demanding N10 billion in general damages and N50 million in exemplary damages.

Kanu's lawyer, Maxwell Opara, stated that the suit also seeks a 10 percent interest per annum on the judgment sum until full liquidation. Kanu wants the court to declare a press release issued by Danjuma on July 25, linking IPOB's armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to recent killings in Imo state, as false and defamatory.
