Nnamdi Kanu's Ex-Lawyer, Wife, Brother Visit Him in Sokoto Prison Amid Calls for Release

Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader, received a visit from his ex-lawyer, wife, and brother in Sokoto prison, where he is serving a life sentence for terrorism-related charges. This visit follows a recent plea by the South-East Caucus of the House of Representatives to President Bola Tinubu for a presidential pardon for Kanu.

Kanu was convicted in November 2020 by the Federal High Court in Abuja on seven counts of terror charges linked to his secessionist campaign in the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria. He was first arrested in 2015 on multiple charges, including treason, and was later granted bail in 2017 before fleeing to the UK.

After being extradited from Kenya in 2021, he remained in custody until his recent transfer to Sokoto. The visit by his family members signifies ongoing efforts to secure his release.
