Chief Okonkwo Advocates for Strengthening Igbo Culture

Chief Mike Ibe Okonkwo, also known as Ifeutor Anaedo, and the Obi of Umudala-Ogbuji, Umuezikee in Nnewichi, Nnewi, called for the strengthening of Igbo culture, values, and traditions during the New Yam Festival held at his ancestral home on Saturday. He expressed concern that the rise in societal ills is largely due to the decline in the celebration of Igbo culture.

As the former President-General of Odida, Nnewichi, and the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ifeutor Water Bottling Company, Chief Okonkwo noted that the observance of Igbo culture is waning and can be revitalized through cultural practices such as the New Yam Festival, age-grade activities, and masquerade displays. He urged collective efforts to revive and sustain these cultural values both locally and in the diaspora.

Chief Okonkwo also expressed gratitude for divine protection since ascending the throne in 2015. The event was attended by notable figures including Chief Moses Okeke, Hon. Chike Agwuncha, and Chief Nicholas Echezona Nsoedo.
