Nnewi Stakeholders Demand Fairness in Mayorship Process

On a recent Sunday, no fewer than 250 stakeholders from Nnewi gathered to discuss the upcoming mayoral nomination process for Nnewi North Local Government Area. The meeting, convened by Chief Gabriel Chukwuma of the Gabro Group, aimed to address concerns regarding the conduct of primary elections and the alleged manipulation of the nomination process.

Stakeholders criticized the establishment of a rotational arrangement that favored the Nnewichi community for the next mayoral candidate. Allegations surfaced that certain individuals were leveraging their close ties to Governor Charles Soludo to override zoning principles in favor of Echezona Anazodo from Umudim.

Chief Chukwuma emphasized the need for unity among Nnewi indigenes to safeguard peace and progress in the community. He clarified that the movement was not targeting individuals but focused on restoring fairness and order in the nomination process.

HRH Igwe Kenneth Orizu III had previously written to the governor, urging adherence to zoning arrangements to prevent unrest in the community.
