Hanga Defects to NDC, NNPP Loses Last Senate Seat

Hanga's defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was formally announced on Tuesday during a plenary session in the Senate, where the Senate President read a letter from Hanga. This development signifies a major setback for NNPP, which no longer holds any Senate seats.

Hanga's decision to leave NNPP was influenced by unresolved internal disputes and factional disagreements within the party, which have created an unstable political environment and hindered the party's legislative responsibilities. Hanga stated that his move to the NDC was made after wide consultations with constituents and political stakeholders, aiming to better reflect political priorities and governance vision.

Following Hanga's defection, the current composition of the Senate shows the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 89 seats, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with seven, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) with four, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) with three, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with one seat.
