Senator Hanga Defects from NNPP to NDC Amid Crises

Senator Rufai Hanga has officially defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as announced during a plenary session on Tuesday. The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read Hanga's defection letter.

In his letter, Hanga cited ongoing internal crises and faction disputes within the NNPP, which he claimed made it difficult for him to function effectively as a lawmaker. He expressed that the political atmosphere had become unstable due to these conflicts.

Hanga stated that the NNPP no longer represented his political goals and vision for governance. Following this defection, the current distribution of Senate seats is as follows: All Progressives Congress (APC) holds 89 seats, African Democratic Congress (ADC) has 7, People's Democratic Party (PDP) has 4, NDC has 3, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has 1, Accord has 1, Labour Party has 1, and NNPP has 0.
