Kwara Governor Abdulrazaq Rejects Anointed Candidate Rumors

On Tuesday, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq dismissed rumors of endorsing a successor for the 2027 governorship race, asserting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will conduct an open, merit-based primary. Speaking in Ilorin during the state congress, he emphasized that whoever emerges as the candidate will not be anointed, as he aims to avoid creating a dynasty and instead build a legacy.

Abdulrazaq's comments come amid speculation regarding the potential shift of power to the Kwara North Senatorial District after two consecutive terms from Kwara Central. He disclosed that six governorship aspirants, including members of the State House of Assembly, have expressed interest in the race, which he described as a healthy competition.

The governor urged aspirants and party stakeholders to maintain unity and support the eventual winner to foster cohesion within the APC. He also highlighted his administration's achievements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare over the past six years, crediting President Bola Tinubu's leadership for the party's confidence and economic improvements.
