Presidency Rejects Comparison of Kanu and Igboho

The presidency of Nigeria, through special adviser Bola Tinubu, has dismissed comparisons between Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, who campaigns for Yoruba nation. In a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday, Tinubu's adviser, Dare, argued that there is no basis for such comparisons, stressing that the actions, methods, and consequences of the two figures fundamentally differ.

Kanu was recently convicted on terrorism charges by a Federal High Court in Abuja and sentenced to life imprisonment for engaging in an armed insurrection against the Nigerian state, resulting in significant loss of life and economic disruption in the South East. In contrast, Igboho's activism focuses on self-determination without creating armed militias to confront the Nigerian military or attack security personnel, which the presidency views as a critical distinction.
