Sunday Dare: Kanu and Igboho's Actions Are Distinct

In a public statement issued on Tuesday, Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, addressed the comparison between Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba nation activist. Dare asserted that the circumstances surrounding their actions are fundamentally different.

He noted that Kanu's recent conviction on terrorism charges by a Federal High Court in Abuja was linked to his engagement in armed insurrection against the Nigerian state, which resulted in widespread violence, loss of lives, and significant economic disruption in the South East region. In contrast, Dare characterized Igboho's activism as a defense of his community in the South West against criminal activities allegedly associated with rogue herders.

He clarified that Igboho did not engage in armed confrontation with the state or order attacks on security agencies, emphasizing that their approaches and impacts should not be conflated.
