No Consensus Candidate Yet for Kwara APC Governorship

Professor Wale Sulaiman, a governorship aspirant from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, announced on Thursday that there is currently no consensus candidate for the upcoming 2027 governorship election. During an official declaration event in Ilorin, Sulaiman dismissed rumors surrounding the emergence of a consensus candidate, asserting that the process for selecting party candidates is still open and guided by the APC constitution.

He clarified that a consensus candidate must sign an undertaking to step down, rather than simply being endorsed. Sulaiman praised the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, stating that it has proven beneficial for Kwara State since 2019.

He expressed his commitment to sustaining the development strides of the current administration. The political landscape in Kwara APC is becoming increasingly competitive, with several aspirants and interest groups mobilizing across the three senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 elections.
