Niger State Governor Bago Pushes for Full Child Immunization

Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has declared a non-negotiable responsibility for full immunization coverage across the state, urging residents to protect every child and safeguard communities from diseases. This announcement coincided with the launch of the 2026 World African Immunization Week at the Primary Health Care Centre along Peter Sarki Road, Tunga.

Governor Bago described the event as a decisive call to action rather than a routine ceremony, highlighting the proven impact of vaccinations globally, which have saved millions of lives and eradicated diseases like smallpox. He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to ensuring that vaccinations are free, safe, and effective, with a focus on mobilizing all 25 local government areas to avoid any child missing routine immunizations.

Dr. Mustapha Jibril, chairman of Chanchaga local government, emphasized the need for community leaders to confront misinformation and drive acceptance at the grassroots level.

The goal is to achieve an 80% vaccination rate among children, requiring sustained efforts from the Ministry of Health and partners like UNICEF.
