Wike Claims Unique Resistance to Federal Pressure as Governor

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023, asserted in a media briefing in Abuja that he was the only governor who stood up to federal pressure during his time in office. He made this claim while addressing selected journalists, stating that no amount of pressure could make him succumb to federal might.

Wike highlighted that the current Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, approached him seeking 25 votes from Rivers State, which he refused to provide. He recalled that during the 2019 elections, former President Muhammadu Buhari did not witness any governor standing up to federal influence as he did.

Wike's remarks also referenced the political dynamics involving Rotimi Amaechi, emphasizing his commitment to the people of Rivers State and his refusal to yield to external pressures.
