CAN Denies Sultan of Sokoto's Invitation for Chapel Event

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a statement clarifying that no invitation was sent to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar, for the groundbreaking ceremony of an ecumenical chapel at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The report, which claimed the Sultan was invited, was dismissed by CAN as incorrect and misleading.

The association emphasized that the confusion arose from a document linked to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), which had not authorized any invitation to the Sultan. CAN expressed concern that such misinformation could stir tension along religious lines and warned against spreading unverified claims that could create unnecessary divisions among Nigerian groups.

The organization reiterated its commitment to promoting peace and mutual respect among different religious groups in the country and urged journalists and public figures to verify information before sharing.
